Abandoned Property is Given New Worth with Food For The Poor
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (May 31, 2016) Gifts of kindness can sometimes come from unexpected places. Food For The Poor recently received a donation of nearly a dozen wooden pallets stacked with boxes filled with thousands of new toys and toy bracelets, hundreds of pairs of new shoes, and even bundles of adult diapers.
Steve Braswell, the owner of Doerr’s Trailer Rentals in West Palm Beach, Fla., discovered the items in one of his trailers earlier this year. After months of trying to locate the owner, the search proved futile, and he decided to open the boxes to see what was left behind.
“Our company has been in business for decades and we’ve seen a lot of unclaimed properties over the years. The quality of these items was really nice, and we didn’t want to throw them away,” said Braswell. “So we decided to find an organization that would appreciate these items and put them to good use. That’s when one of our employees told us about Food For The Poor, so we decided to donate them.”
Food For The Poor helps provide loving care for more than 5,200 children in 156 orphanages throughout the Caribbean and Latin America through its Angels Of Hope sponsorship program. These children receive food, clothing, shelter, an education and a lot of love. The toys and shoes donated by Doerr’s Trailer Rentals will be sent to orphanages in Guatemala, Haiti and Nicaragua. The adult diapers are being sent to centers in Jamaica that care for the mentally and physically challenged who cannot care for themselves.
“The joy that these toy items and shoes will bring to the children in our orphanages cannot be measured in dollars, nor is there a dollar amount for the appreciation these undergarments will provide for those with special needs,” said Angel Aloma, Executive Director of Food For The Poor. “We are very thankful that Mr. Braswell recognized the real value of these items and decided to donate them to Food For The Poor.”
Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance, with more than 95 percent of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor.
