COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (February 13, 2014) – Executive Chef Nestor “Alex” Amaya, owner of El Tamarindo Café, has unveiled the mouthwatering menu for the anticipated “Tour a House, Build a House” 2014 Designer Show House event, presented by Lighthouse Interiors Feb. 20-23.
“It is always an honor for me to share my favorite culinary creations,” said Executive Chef Amaya. “Being a part of the 2014 Designer Show House is a wonderful opportunity for me to do the two things I’m most passionate about: preparing delicious meals and helping others.”
In just one week, the event will officially open with an exclusive VIP reception on Thursday, Feb. 20 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. VIP guests will have their taste buds tantalized with signature dishes prepared and served by Chef Amaya during live cooking demonstrations in the home’s dream kitchen. Selections include ceviche, tender rack of veal, polpettine and mozzarella wrapped with prosciutto.
“Food For The Poor is delighted to have Chef Amaya prepare his best-loved recipes for the 2014 Designer Show House charity event. We appreciate his willingness to use his talents to support families in Haiti,” said Angel Aloma, Executive Director of Food For The Poor.
Those attending the 2014 Designer Show House VIP Reception will also enjoy cocktails and specialty drinks courtesy of Bacardi, a fashion show by Styles Boutique, an assortment of silent auction items, music by Miami’s DJ UP and open tours of the palatial home. VIP tickets are $150.
In addition to tours of the stunning, newly-constructed multi-million dollar waterfront home at 2316 NE 30th Court in Lighthouse Point, the three-day event will feature the very best in home décor, interior design techniques and architectural landscaping. A group of South Florida’s top designers, including Bridget Conway of Lighthouse Interiors, decorated the home throughout. Proceeds from the unique event will be used to build Food For The Poor homes for needy families in Ganthier, Haiti.
General admission days for the 2014 Designer Show House event are Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22, from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 23, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $30.
- Friday, Feb. 21, at 5:30 p.m. – wine tasting
- Saturday, Feb. 22, 2-4 p.m. – champagne and desserts served
- Sunday, Feb. 23, 2-4 p.m. – enchanting steel pan music performance, and a colorful fashion show hosted by Noelle Swimwear
Parking for the event will be at The Pink Church (First Presbyterian Church of Pompano Beach), 2331 NE 26th Avenue, Pompano Beach, FL 33062. Complimentary shuttle service to and from the event will be provided by USA Transportation.

Food For The Poor, named by The Chronicle of Philanthropy as the largest international relief and development organization in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America.
