Don Moen, Food For The Poor Build Homes in Haiti

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (July 18, 2011) —Christian music artist Don Moen’s six-city Canadian concert tour is finished, but the sounds and spirit of worship are living on in 11 new two-room homes in Haiti. Each night during the tour, Moen shared his message of need and hope, and generous audiences responded with donations to build the homes through the international relief and development agency Food For The Poor.

“Food For The Poor is doing amazing work in Haiti, and I was proud to share their story each night during my recent tour of Canada. I’m overwhelmed that my friends there helped me raise enough money so that 11 more families now have a future out of the slums, in new homes in Marigot, Haiti,” said Moen, a singer, songwriter and worship leader. “Food For The Poor helped me turn an evening of worship into a lasting legacy of helping others in need.”

Since the 2010 earthquake, Food For The Poor has built more than 2,200 permanent two-room homes in Haiti. With more than 800,000 people still living in tents and other temporary structures, the need remains great.

This isn’t the first time Moen has collaborated with the Food For The Poor. In 2004, he traveled to Jamaica and was moved to partner on homebuilding projects. Then in 2010, after the earthquake struck Haiti, he visited Port-au-Prince and an area in Cap-Haitien called Shada; and returned to the United States inspired to change lives.

“God has given Don Moen a great talent for singing and songwriting, and Food For The Poor is blessed that he has chosen to help us in our mission,” said Samantha Mahfood, Executive Director of Food For The Poor Canada. “Because of his willingness to share his talents with us, we have been able to provide homes for families in desperate need of shelter.”

Food For The Poor, the third-largest international relief and development organization in the nation, does much more than feed millions of hungry poor in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America.
