FFTP and Partners Provide Medical Supplies, Water for Turkey Earthquake Relief
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Feb. 16, 2023) Food For The Poor (FFTP) continues to work with trusted partners to deliver critically needed aid to Turkey and Syria in the aftermath of the Feb. 6 earthquakes.
FFTP donors are providing an Interagency Emergency Health Kit through partner MAP International that will go to the International Medical Corp. responding on the ground.
One kit can support 10,000 people for three months with medicines and essential supplies.
FFTP also is working with Water Mission, which is mobilizing in Turkey with partners to deploy five Living Water Treatment Systems. Each water treatment system can meet water needs for up to 5,000 people each day.
The charity is supporting other partners as needs are identified. Those partners include:
- Brother’s Brother Foundation, providing medicines, medical supplies, orthopedic needs.
- Feed My Starving Children, providing MannaPack rice casserole meals.
The death toll is more than 41,000, including over 35,400 in Turkey and more than 5,800 in Syria. An estimated 26 million people across both countries need humanitarian assistance.
On both sides of the border, the World Health Organization (WHO) has stressed the need to “focus on trauma rehabilitation” when treating populations affected by the disaster.
The United Nations says up to 5.3 million people in Syria may be homeless, and nearly 900,000 people are in urgent need of hot food in Turkey and Syria.
Last Thursday, the United States Treasury announced a 180-day exemption to its sanctions on Syria for “all transactions related to earthquake relief efforts.”
Today, FFTP will hold a special prayer service from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at its Coconut Creek headquarters, 6401 Lyons Road, to pray for Turkey and Syria.
FFTP President/CEO Ed Raine said the charity’s strategy of working with partners means it can provide immediate relief when the world’s attention shifts to catastrophes outside its normal theater of operations.
In 2022, FFTP worked with longtime partner Feed My Staving Children to respond to the war in Ukraine, providing support for MannaPack rice meals. Now, FFTP is lending its support to partners delivering lifesaving aid in Turkey and Syria.
“Because we’re fortunate enough to have these extraordinary relationships with our partners, we’re able to have a meaningful role in the response,” Raine said. “People need us. People are suffering. And we’re getting help to them through these trusted partners.”

Immediately after the earthquakes, FFTP launched a campaign through Feb. 15 with radio partners to raise funds to provide assistance.
Donors can provide a gift to help the people of Turkey and Syria through the FFTP website: www.FoodForThePoor.org/quakerelief.
