Food For The Poor Thanks Office Depot Foundation

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Aug. 6, 2015) – The Office Depot Foundation has donated 6,000 sackpacks to the international relief and development organization Food For The Poor. The charity will distribute the sackpacks, filled with essential school supplies, to children in its Angels Of Hope program and to FFP-supported schools.

“We want to thank Office Depot Foundation and President Mary Wong for the tremendous job they are doing. These sackpacks help deliver dreams to children who often arrive at our orphanages with no personal belongings and no hope for the future,” said Food For The Poor President/CEO Robin Mahfood. “Education is the only true path to ending poverty, and it is a blessing to know there are partners such as this taking this journey with us.”

Through Food For The Poor’s Angels Of Hope program, caring donors sponsor more than 4,500 children in 139 homes. These homes are dedicated to serving orphaned or abandoned, abused, and malnourished children in the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Trinidad.

The Office Depot Foundation has been donating to the Angels Of Hope program and FFP-supported schools for four years, with a total of 20,000 sackpacks donated since 2012.

The National Backpack Program is in its 15th year, and has made a difference to 3.7 million children.

“We believe that every child should have the opportunity to go to school with dignity and hope,” said Office Depot Foundation President Mary Wong. “The sackpacks and school supplies we donate help to level the playing field and give these wonderful children a reason to stand just a little bit taller.”

Food For The Poor, named by The Chronicle of Philanthropy as the largest international relief and development organization in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance, with more than 95 percent of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor.
