One Event, 10 Million Meals: Laura Story to Perform for FFTP’s We Are One
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Sept. 27, 2023) – Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Laura Story will perform for Food For The Poor’s (FFTP) fourth annual National Celebration – We Are One, which aims to raise enough funds to provide 10 million meals.
The virtual event will be livestreamed from the charity’s Coconut Creek headquarters at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28.
More than 345 million people worldwide face high levels of food insecurity in 2023, more than double the number in 2020, according to the United Nations World Food Programme.
Haiti and the countries in Central America’s dry corridor, a strip of land vulnerable to prolonged droughts, are among the hunger hot spots identified by the World Food Programme. The ripple effects of rising inflation, global conflicts, and climate change have inflicted greater hardships, leaving many who were already vulnerable facing something even much worse.
Thanks to a special gift-matching challenge, every dollar donated for We Are One will be matched with a dollar’s worth of food, making donors’ gifts go even further.
To register for the event or to provide a gift, go to www.FoodForThePoor.org/one. Or you can donate by texting WEARE1 to 51555.
Story, a six-time GMA Dove Award winner, has shared how faith has helped her through adversity.
“Each of us has something in our lives that has forced us to let go of whatever normalcy we envisioned,” Story says in her bio on Laurastorymusic.com. “Every one of us has endured uninvited change.”
Story’s husband, Martin Evington, was diagnosed with a brain tumor, not long after the couple moved from South Carolina to Johns Creek, Ga., so Story could take on a leader position at Perimeter Church. The couple found strength in their faith and their new community.
Her song “Blessings,” for which she won Top Christian Song in the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, was written as a testimony and reminder that God remains faithful even when things turn out differently than our expectations.
“Laura Story’s music is a powerful reminder of the hope and love that we can share with those in need,” FFTP President/CEO Ed Raine said. “We are grateful for her support and for the support of our donors and all of those who will join us for this important event.”
BANDED is the presenting sponsor for the event. Additional sponsors include longtime partner Feed My Starving Children and longtime radio sponsor Salem Media.
