FFP Thanks Donors for ‘Most Beautiful Type of Generosity’ at Luncheon

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (July 11, 2018) Food For The Poor thanked two of its most devoted supporters at the charity’s second Luncheon of Thanks today at the Boca Raton Marriott at Boca Center.

Tom Abblett, an elder at Hammock Street Church in Boca Raton who has ardently supported the charity’s Join The Pack community food packing event for the past two years, received the 2018 Food For The Poor Volunteer of the Year Award.

Food For The Poor Vice President Mark Khouri, who presented the award, said Abblett recruits family members who have come from near and far to support him at every packing session.

“He is a hard-working boxer, carrying the MannaPack meals carefully packed by volunteers into boxes, and he does not exit the building until after the cleanup at the event is complete,” Khouri said. “We are immensely blessed to have his support as we work to bring hope to those in dire need.”

Abblett said he tries to follow the ultimate volunteer, Jesus Christ.

“Faith itself isn’t enough unless it produces good deeds,” Abblett said. “I try and live every day in the light of Jesus Christ. I try and let that shine forth.”

The 2018 Corporate Sponsor of the Year Award was given to TD Bank. The company’s relationship with Food For The Poor goes back to 2009 with its continued support of the charity’s Building Hope Gala held annually in February in Boca Raton.

“It’s about what we can do. It’s doing so many things that can change one person’s life every day,” said Lili Cock, Business Relationship Manager for TD Bank, in accepting the award.

Food For The Poor Executive Director Angel Aloma thanked Abblett, TD Bank and the charity’s other volunteers and corporate partners that are transforming the lives of the poor.

“You keep us energized. You have the most beautiful type of generosity that exists in the world,” Aloma said.
