Monthly Giving With a Focus On Children
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Nov. 2, 2009) – His name is Carlos Daniel, and at just 6 years old his mother died and he became an orphan. After living on the streets in cardboard boxes for several years, this little boy has finally found a “home” and the chance to dream at an orphanage supported by Food For The Poor in the Dominican Republic.
Instead of begging on the streets for food, Carlos now enjoys playing sports with other boys his age in his new home. With newfound hope, Carlos says he wants to be a pastor when he grows up.
Through a new monthly program established by the South Florida-based Christian charity, we can all learn more about Carlos Daniel and other children Food For The Poor helps by participating in “Child of the Month” — a new giving program beginning November 2nd.
The program will feature a different child each month, offering donors the opportunity to reach out and help provide food, housing, clean water, and educational items to millions of children in the Caribbean and Latin America. By joining “Child of the Month” through Food For The Poor’s website, you will have access to these special children’s stories and can follow their progress as they receive life-altering support.
New and existing donors can decide how much money they will offer each month. “Child of the Month” donations will go directly to programs that focus exclusively on poor children throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.
“Millions of children living in poverty-stricken areas never get a chance to dream about what they want to be when they grow up or how they will contribute to society,” said Robin Mahfood, President/CEO of Food For The Poor. “Instead, they have nightmares about surviving, fighting off illness and quenching their thirst. For them, it is only about living day-to-day, hour-by-hour. They even worry about where they are going to sleep at night. This program is a new way to help the millions of young kids who are struggling to survive.”
Not only can donors choose the amount they give to “Child of the Month”, but they will also receive newsletters tailored to program participants filled with updates and success stories of the featured children.
Food For The Poor, the largest international relief and development organization in the nation, does much more than feed millions of hungry poor in 17 countries across the Caribbean and Latin America. We provide emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance, with more than 96 percent of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor.
