Piqua Native Hosts Annual Homes for Haiti Reception in Miami Valley
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Oct. 10, 2019) Piqua natives Ben and Louise Scott, their son Benny and his wife Stacy Scott, are hosting a fundraiser to complete the third phase of 50 homes in Savann Kabrit, Haiti, at the Piqua Country Club, 9812 N. Country Club Road Piqua, Ohio, Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m.
The social hour and artisan auction with Food For The Poor will help raise funds to transform the lives of 50 Haitian families who have been praying for safe shelter. Dedicated supporters have helped Ben Scott raise funds for a community of 100 homes in Savann Kabrit, and transformed the lives of residents who once lived in makeshift houses of mud, sticks and scrap metal roofs.
“You can’t help but to feel overwhelmed with joy and happiness for the Haitian people when you go there and see these families in their new houses and surroundings,” Scott said. “These past 10 years have been a miracle, from our perspective, to be involved with something awesome. Thanks to the grace of God working miracles, we have made our goal eight out of 10 years and no slowdown is in sight. You can’t help but be awed knowing God is at the helm making it all happen.”
Scott partnered with Food For The Poor in 2009, months before the devastating earthquake rocked Haiti. Scott and the Boca Grande Hope For Haitians Committee of Boca Grande, Fla., began building homes in 2010, and nearly 400 homes have been built for destitute families across the Caribbean nation through Food For The Poor.
“Ben and Louise are truly an amazing couple who have dedicated the past decade of their lives to helping families in Haiti have better lives,” said Food For The Poor Executive Director Angel Aloma, who has traveled with them to Haiti. “Their Piqua event has grown year over year. To see it become a family affair is something even more special.”
Guests attending the Homes for Haiti reception will hear from keynote speaker Food For The Poor Vice President Mark Khouri, who will share how lives in Haiti are being transformed thanks to the passion and generosity of Piqua supporters.
