NBC’s The Voice Winner Tessanne Chin Grateful to Lend Her Voice to Food For The Poor

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (January 28, 2014) –Tessanne Chin, winner of Season 5 of NBC’s The Voice, is sure to bring the audience to their feet at Food For The Poor’s annual Building Hope gala on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at The Polo Club of Boca Raton. The Jamaican singer, who is the first Voice contestant to secure a number one spot on the iTunes charts, will perform a set of songs that includes her latest single “Tumbling Down.”
Proceeds from the sold-out gala will replace dilapidated huts in Ganthier, Haiti, with safe, permanent houses for many of the country’s poorest families.
“I am so honored to be a part of this event,” said Tessanne. “I am in full support of Food For The Poor and I’m grateful to have this opportunity to lend my voice in helping to bring awareness to a great cause.”
Like Tessanne, Building Hope committee members Allison Venditti and Kara Seelye also seek to improve the lives of Haiti’s poor. It was only a few months ago that the pair traveled to Ganthier with Food For The Poor to witness firsthand the poverty of this remote community and how best to address their needs. Observing the malnourished children, the fragile huts and the overall poor living conditions was heartbreaking for the two Boca Raton residents.
“It is the worst situation I have seen,” said Venditti. “The houses are made of little sticks and mud, with thatched roofs. These families are just trying to survive.”
Jason Martinez, co-anchor for WPLG-TV ABC Local 10 Morning News and Local 10 News at Noon, will return as the gala’s master of ceremonies for a second consecutive year. The evening will also feature a silent auction, cocktail reception, gourmet dinner, and dancing. Bidding on silent auction prizes such as electronics, jewelry, exotic vacations, golf and dining packages will offer guests opportunities to support the cause.
This year’s Building Hope committee and Gregory Fried, owner of Gregory’s Fine Jewelry in Delray Beach, have devised a unique way to inspire gala attendees to contribute toward making a difference in the lives of others. For a donation at the event, guests will be entered into a drawing to win a stunning pair of 18-karat white gold diamond earrings weighing 2.92 carats and valued at $6,000.
Jay DiPietro, President/COO/General Manager of Boca West Country Club, will be honored at the gala as the 2014 Ambassador For The Poor.
