About Us
Our Culture
Inspired by the Gospel and motivated by our love for one another, Food For The Poor is committed to its mission to end poverty in the countries we serve throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Food For The Poor is a faith-based relief and development organization. We put Christ first in our work and are guided by the fundamental principle that all people have the right to achieve their full potential.
Diverse People and Programs
As the hands and feet of Christ, we value and promote diversity and equality. We are committed to ensuring that our organization reflects the richness of diverse peoples, cultures, and ideas in accomplishing our mission.
Meaningful Work
When our efforts are recognized, we feel good. Meaningful work provides a sense of purpose and joy. How rewarding it is to work with an organization that supports, values and inspires the passion in your life.
CRUSE – Our Guiding Principles
Our guiding principles define how we operate and reflect the mission and vision of Food For
The Poor. Our ministry reflects Christ’s unconditional love, an endless supply of His mercy and
compassion for us all. CRUSE invokes the biblical story of the jar of oil that would never run dry.
The blessing of an inexhaustible supply is a powerful illustration that also beautifully symbolizes
how we are able to do what we do with the help of our loyal donors and supporters.
The word CRUSE is formed by the first letter of each of Food For The Poor’s guiding principles —
Collaboration, Right Things Right, Urgency, Stewardship and Engagement.
These are at the core of our culture.
In biblical times, cruse jars were small vessels used to hold oil and water. In 1 Kings 17:8-16, we learn
of a cruse jar that miraculously never ran dry. In a time of trouble, God provided. Likewise, here at
Food For The Poor, we are consistently reminded of God’s grace and goodness, which never run dry.
“For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry …”
(1 Kings 17:16, NIV)
