Food For The Poor’s 2017 Annual Report: Feeding, Sheltering and Transforming Lives of Families
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (April 30, 2018) Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the United States provided nearly $900 million in aid in 2017.
The charity built 7,582 housing units for families in need of safe shelter, and implemented income-generating projects giving poor families the ability to break free of poverty.
In 2017, Food For The Poor shipped 4,232 containers of essential goods, including the following lifesaving and life-transforming items:
- 1,654 tractor-trailers of food equating to 1.2 million meals a day to feed malnourished children and their families.
- 571 tractor-trailers of medicines and medical supplies.
- 188 tractor-trailers of school furniture, books and supplies.
- 115 tractor-trailers of clothing and shoes.
Food For The Poor quickly provided emergency assistance to Antigua, Dominica, Puerto Rico and St. Thomas in response to the destruction caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, shipping 180 tractor-trailer loads of hurricane relief supplies by the end of year.
While Food For The Poor’s mission primarily is to serve internationally, the charity has responded in the past to catastrophic disasters in the United States, and now in the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico and St. Thomas.
“Last year’s hurricanes were disastrous in parts of the Caribbean, and while our focus is to help as many families as possible to get out of poverty, we also are going to remain committed to the ongoing hurricane recovery work,” said Robin Mahfood, CEO/President of Food For The Poor. “Everything this charity does to help the poor or those suffering because of some unforeseen tragedy can only be accomplished by the blessings of God and the generosity of our donors.”
Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor primarily in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicine, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance.
