Taiwan ICDF Visits Food For The Poor
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (June 22, 2018) Ambassador Timothy T.Y. Hsiang, Secretary General of Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund, and others from the foreign aid organization visited Food For The Poor’s headquarters on Thursday.
Hsiang and Food For The Poor President/CEO Robin Mahfood exchanged gifts, renewing their commitment to continue to work together to find better solutions for those who live in poverty.
“What the Taiwan ICDF has done for us on behalf of the poorest of the poor has been tremendous and an incredible blessing to millions,” Mahfood said. “We are extremely grateful to the people of Taiwan and the Taiwan ICDF for all they have done to help our poorest brothers and sisters.”
Hsiang said he was impressed with the charity and the work it has done for people in need, especially in Haiti.
Hsiang was joined by Shang-Yi Huang, Special Assistant to the Secretary General; Ming-Hong Yen, Director of the Technical Cooperation Department; Calvin Hin, Director of the Financial Affairs Office; and Molly Yang, Junior Specialist in the Technical Cooperation Department.
Vice Consul Adolfo Sun of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami, also accompanied the group.
The Taiwan ICDF serves as Taiwan’s international development and cooperation organization, dedicated to boosting socio-economic development, enhancing human resources and promoting economic relations in a range of developing partner countries. It offers humanitarian assistance and provides aid in the event of natural disasters or international refugee crises.
For more than a decade, the Taiwan ICDF and the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been cherished partners of Food For The Poor.
The Taiwan ICDF has cooperated with the charity in many joint initiatives in agriculture and farm-raised fish and livestock breeding projects in Haiti, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua.
The Taiwan ICDF also has partnered with the charity to outfit schools and orphanages in Haiti with computer workstations. In addition, the Republic of China (Taiwan) has donated 10,000 fruit trees and computers through the charity to schools in St. Lucia.
Thanks to the kindness of Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 40 tractor-trailer loads of rice are on the way to Haiti and should arrive in mid-July, The Republic of China (Taiwan) is sending 6,100 metric tons of rice to Haiti in seven shipments in May, June, July, August, September, October and November. The latest gift of rice will provide 53 million meals for the hungry poor.
Food For The Poor will distribute the donated rice to sponsored programs, one of which is the charity’s feeding center in Port-au-Prince. Approximately 15,000 hot meals are cooked and distributed from this location six days a week.
Since 2007 alone, Food For The Poor has received more than 72 million pounds of rice for Haiti through Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor primarily in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America.
