Ten Villages and Counting, Hope For Haitians is Renewing Hope

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Aug. 12, 2016) Several founding members of Hope For Haitians from the Rockford, Ill., area traveled with Food For The Poor to Haiti earlier this summer to inaugurate their tenth village in the Caribbean nation and to prepare for their annual fundraising event on Aug. 27.

Garde Saline Village, located in the northern part of the country in Fort Liberté, is where nearly 100 people led a parade filled with songs and expressions of sincere gratitude for their new homes and community center. Phase one of the Garde Saline Village, which has 25 concrete block homes with sanitation, is providing families in the region with a renewed sense of hope.

“We cannot thank the Rockford Hope For Haitians enough for their generosity for poor families in Haiti. For more than 15 years, Hope For Haitians has lived up to its vision, which is to improve the quality of life for the people living in Haiti who are suffering in extreme poverty,” said Angel Aloma, Executive Director of Food For The Poor. “They have built more than 400 homes and are working toward the completion of their eleventh village, which is a true testament of their dedication for helping to make Haiti a better place for future generations.”

Hope For Haitians will honor those who worked tirelessly to serve the poor and to raise money for the first phase of Garde Saline Village, which is about a 45-minute drive from the port city of Cap-Haitien, at this year’s An Evening in the Tropics.

This year’s fundraising goal is to complete the second phase of the Garde Saline Village by building homes with sanitation for an additional 25 families. Each family will receive a solar-powered light kit, plus the purchase of 100 goats for the community’s animal husbandry projects, and a rice mill that also will benefit the entire community.
