FFTP’s Virtual Race Provides Hope During the Ongoing Pandemic
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (July 19, 2021) Thanks to participants in Food For The Poor’s first multinational virtual event, more than 425,000 meals will be provided for families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the Caribbean and Latin America.
A total of 267 people from the United States and Jamaica participated in the charity’s virtual Race For Hunger by walking or running in 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon races over a four-week period during the month of June. This year’s event also offered cyclists a choice of 10 miles, Quarter Century (25 miles), Metric Century (62.13 miles) or Imperial Century (100 miles).
“For the second year in the row, Food For The Poor decided that a virtual race was the safest way for everyone to participate in the monthlong event to raise money to feed families still recovering from the effects of COVID-19,” FFTP President/CEO Ed Raine said. “We remain committed to assisting as many as possible in the countries where FFTP serves and we want to thank everyone for their continued support during this pandemic.”
In addition to the meals, FFTP-Jamaica exceeded its goal to fundraise for five homes. Participants there raised enough money to build more than 13 homes. This generous amount will be matched, allowing FFTP to provide 27 homes to families in dire need on the island.
