Wanted: Volunteers for Veterans Day Packing Event at FFTP
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Nov. 2, 2022) – Food For The Poor needs you. The charity is looking for veterans and volunteers to pack hygiene kits during its first-ever Honoring Our Veterans Community Day Event on Friday, Nov. 11.
The special day will kick off at 10:30 a.m. at the charity’s Coconut Creek headquarters, 6401 Lyons Road, with a half-hour program recognizing members of local veterans organizations as well as FFTP team members who have served.
Army Col. J. Frank Melgarejo Jr., Chief of the Theater Civil Affairs Planning Team South at United States Southern Command, a longtime FFTP partner, will be the keynote speaker. Other guests include Coconut Creek Police Sgt. Raphael Marin, a military veteran, who will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
At 11:15 a.m., guests will move to the charity’s warehouse to pack hygiene kits that will go to poverty-stricken families in the countries FFTP serves and to help veterans in need in South Florida.
During the 90-minute packing session, volunteers will fill the kits with basic necessities – soap, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste – items that most people take for granted every day but are desperately needed by children and families in times of crisis.
FFTP President/CEO Ed Raine said the charity is honored to have the opportunity to honor veterans and to give everyone a hands-on way to give back to others in need.
“We can never say enough how grateful we are for our veterans and their sacrifice and service,” Raine said. “This event is a wonderful opportunity to show veterans just how much they are loved and cared for and to allow everyone to come together to do something meaningful.”
