Support Our Poverty and Hunger Relief Efforts

At Food For The Poor, feeding the hungry is at the heart of our mission. We prioritize the preservation of human dignity and compassionate care for those in need. Our approach to poverty is rooted in sustainable, community-driven solutions that empower long-term change. From 2019 to 2023, we provided 943 million meals and delivered $3.2 billion in aid to communities across Latin America and the Caribbean. Our growing network of donors and volunteers shares our belief that poverty is not inevitable—it is solvable. Join us in the fight: spread the word, shop from our Humanitarian Gift Catalog, or become a donor today.

Standing With Those Facing Devastation

Melissa's Imminent Threat

to the Carribean

Forecast models warn that Hurricane Melissa could bring devastation to Jamaica and Haiti far beyond what was seen during Hurricane Beryl. While Beryl caused an estimated US $204 million in damage in Jamaica, destroyed thousands of homes, and left at least 73 people dead across the region, Melissa’s forecasted strength and slow movement are expected to compound the disaster. With Category 5 winds, a 13-foot storm surge, and up to 40 inches of rain predicted, Jamaica faces catastrophic flooding, infrastructure collapse, and severe agricultural losses. As floodwaters destroy crops and block transportation routes, the storm threatens to trigger widespread food shortages.

In Haiti, where deforestation and fragile infrastructure make flooding especially deadly, Melissa’s projected path raises fears of catastrophic landslides and crop destruction. Beryl skirted the island, but Melissa is expected to hit more directly, inundating farmlands and isolating communities already struggling with hunger. Heavy rain and storm surges could wipe out local harvests, disrupt food supply chains, and worsen an existing humanitarian crisis. Unless relief efforts and food aid are mobilized immediately, both Haiti and Jamaica may face severe shortages of food and clean water in Melissa’s aftermath.

Positioning Aid
Acting Now to Deliver Rapid Emergency Response

As Hurricane Melissa intensifies into a Category 5 storm ahead of its expected landfall on Saturday, Food For The Poor is using this brief window of time to act. Relief teams are pre-positioning disaster aid in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Grenada, and Trinidad & Tobago to ensure a swift local response once the storm passes. Each Emergency Relief Kit includes tarps, blankets, hygiene and diaper packs, women’s care items, Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier packets, oral rehydration solutions, and hand-crank emergency radio flashlights—essential supplies to help families endure the first critical days after disaster strikes.

Additional resources stored at Food For The Poor’s Coconut Creek warehouse are ready for immediate deployment, including generators and other essential items used to assemble disaster relief kits. Beginning next week, volunteers will be invited to participate in packing events at the organization’s headquarters to help prepare and ship additional supplies to the areas most in need.

Pre-positioning supplies is a vital part of disaster preparedness that saves lives—but it takes resources. We depend on the generosity of our donors to fund these critical emergency relief efforts.

HELP NOW

Relief Operations Mobilized on the Ground

Food For The Poor has already launched emergency preparations at its distribution centers in Haiti and Jamaica, ensuring relief supplies are ready before Hurricane Melissa makes landfall. Teams on the ground are organizing and securing essential aid — including food, water, and shelter materials — to respond immediately once it’s safe to deploy.

Be an Angel of Hope like the

Angélicas

For decades, mother–daughter duo Angélica Vale and Angélica María have captivated audiences worldwide with music, film, and storytelling. Today, their legacy expands beyond the stage. By joining Food For The Poor as Angel Ambassadors, Angélica Vale and Angélica María remind us that love is most powerful when it is shared. Sponsorship is more than a gift—it’s the passing of hope from one generation to the next.

Together, they are raising their voices for the thousands of children in Latin America and the Caribbean who are still waiting for someone to stand with them. Sponsorship is not just monthly support, it’s a lifeline of love, a pathway to opportunity, and a promise that no child will be forgotten.

FFTP Magazines: SUMMER edition available for download

This issue focuses on the growing crises of hunger and poverty, and how Food For The Poor and partners are responding with hope. We feature the story of Semana Santa (Holy Week)—a cherished tradition now embraced as a season of service, with communities distributing meals, collecting donations, and engaging youth in acts of kindness.

We also share the inspiring journey of Santiago, a young boy in El Salvador with a rare genetic disorder. With no local treatment available, his family found hope through the support of FUSAL, Duke University Hospital, and our generous donors—leading to life-saving care and a new path forward.
