If you ever feel hopeless about the scope of poverty, or skeptical about the impact you can make in our world, take a look at what Food For The Poor donors are doing to help to transform the community of Fort Royal, Haiti. Fifty solid concrete homes (each equipped with a personal pit latrine and shower area, a water cistern, and a solar light kit) have been built. A water purification unit, a community center and a 7-classroom school have been established. Vegetable seeds, cows and goats have been provided. An incredible transformation is taking place – one person at a time.
Lisemène, one of the new homeowners in Fort Royal, had this to say about the project: “The greatest blessing I have ever received in my life is this house that brought so much peace to my family. At night we sleep well and peacefully, even when it rains. I am proud to say that I live in a beautiful, clean, and solid house. I thank God, the people at Food For The Poor, and especially those who gave me this house. I keep you all in my prayers so God continues to bless you.”
It sounds simple but it bears repeating: change begins with helping just one. One community, one house, one family at a time.
