Bid On a Worthy Gift That Gives Twice
“Bid For The Poor” is Food For The Poor’s premiere online auction. Beginning May 5 you can bid on more than 100 items at www.foodforthepoor.org/auction. Proceeds will go directly to help build a vocational center for the women of Tabacal, Guatemala. |
Looking for that perfect gift for Father’s Day, or perhaps for the grad on your list? Beginning May 5 and closing at midnight on May 19, you can bid online for the ideal gift and help the largest international relief and development organization in the United States, Food For The Poor, change the lives of women and their families in impoverished Tabacal, Guatemala.
“Bid For The Poor” is the charity’s premiere online auction. Prizes hit every price-point and range from luxurious vacations to personal religious mementos. Imagine if your winning bid for a trip to Lake Tahoe or Spain would empower an entire village of women and their families who are struggling to survive in a rural village in Central America.
With the online auction’s proceeds, Food For The Poor plans to construct a vocational training center where the women of Tabacal can learn dressmaking, tailoring, carpentry, and baking in order for them to perpetuate entrepreneurial enterprises and self-sustaining businesses.
Also up for auction will be unique items from the countries Food For The Poor serves, including handmade rosaries from Jamaica and original pewter pieces from Nicaragua. Other fun items included are VIP tickets to a taping of “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” and game shows like “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune.”
“Our donors appreciate the auctions we have at our various charity events,“ said Food For The Poor Executive Director Angel Aloma. “Expanding into this arena makes perfect sense now. It means we can extend our reach. We are always looking for ways to provide existing and future donors with new opportunities to help the poor empower themselves to break the cycle of poverty in Guatemala, and other parts of the developing world.”
There are more than 100 items on which to bid and they all could bring a smile to your recipient’s face, while ensuring the women of Tabacal the opportunity to support their families. Shopping for this cause will contribute to this project’s success.
Make the winning bid on the motorized pool lounger or the gorgeous gold bracelet and you will help to provide an education for women in need and you won’t have to worry about buyer’s remorse.
