Food For The Poor Helps Victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Sept. 1, 2017) As people whose homes were destroyed or flooded by Hurricane Harvey look for help, Food For The Poor is responding to the urgent request for aid by sending critically needed relief supplies to Texas.

The goods will be distributed by Convoy of Hope at Faith Family Church in Victoria, Texas.

These items include:

• Two truckloads of food, water, blankets, cleaning supplies, paper towels, toilet paper, diapers, wipes and personal hygiene products.
• One truckload including more than 8,000 hygiene kits and 1,600 20-gallon totes with lids to help displaced residents secure their belongings.

Matthew 25: Ministries, a longtime partner of Food For The Poor, and Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Chatham, Ill., are donating the goods to Food For The Poor. Midwest Mission Distribution Center provides disaster relief, education and medical supplies to those in need locally, nationally and internationally.

Convoy of Hope is a nonprofit organization based in Springfield, Mo., that provides disaster relief around the world.

While Food For The Poor’s mission primarily is to serve internationally, the charity has responded in the past to catastrophic disasters in the United States. Last year, Food For The Poor and Matthew 25: Ministries teamed up to help residents in southern Louisiana impacted by record flooding.

“We are all neighbors, regardless of our locations, especially in this time of need,” said Food For The Poor President/CEO Robin Mahfood. “This is only the beginning. Food For The Poor will be there for the long haul for our brothers and sisters in Texas.”

Matthew 25: Ministries is an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization headquartered in Cincinnati. It responds to disaster situations that are so catastrophic or comprehensive in nature that coping with the aftermath is beyond the capabilities of the community or surrounding areas.

Matthew 25: Ministries provides critical necessities in disaster areas including tarps, blankets, nonperishable food, water, personal care products, baby supplies, medical supplies and cleaning products to support relief and recovery efforts.

Hurricane Harvey made its first landfall Aug. 25 just north of Corpus Christi, Texas, as a Category 4 storm with winds of 130 mph. The record-breaking storm dumped devastating amounts of rain in Houston, the nation’s fourth-largest city, causing catastrophic floods. Federal officials have said that more than 450,000 people are likely to seek federal aid to recover from Harvey.
