Join The Pack: Jersey Mike’s Pledges 50 Percent of Sales to Help FFTP Provide Food for Impoverished Families in Honduras
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2023) – Jersey Mike’s Subs, the popular submarine sandwich chain, is teaming up with Food For The Poor to help families living in poverty in Honduras. On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the restaurant will donate 50 percent of all sales for that day at its Parkland, Fla., location at 7011 N. State Road 7 to FFTP in support of the charity’s upcoming Join The Pack event.
“Join the Pack is a great event, and we are excited to partner with Food For The Poor in the effort to help the people of Honduras,” said Jason Rex, owner of the Jersey Mike’s Subs Parkland location. “Our customers are incredibly generous and supportive. I’m sure they will be pleased to learn that they will be helping people in desperate need when they purchase their favorite sub.”
Working with its longstanding partner, Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), FFTP will host Join The Pack on Saturday, Oct. 7, at Advent Lutheran Church at 300 E. Yamato Road (FL-794) in Boca Raton.
FFTP is seeking 500 volunteers to help pack 100,000 lifesaving MannaPack rice meals. Three packing sessions are available: 9 to 11 a.m., noon to 2 p.m., and 3 to 5 p.m. Participants must register in advance, as part of the fundraising effort to help defray the cost of meals and shipment to Honduras. Through the end of Friday, Sept. 29, volunteers can register for $25 each.
Jersey Mike’s is a longstanding supporter of FFTP. In 2018, a team from Jersey Mike’s joined hundreds of volunteers to pack meals for families in Guatemala during a Join The Pack event at Florida Atlantic University’s Student Union Building in Boca Raton. The following year, the popular sub chain also supported the construction of a home in Guatemala for a family in need.
In addition to the fundraiser, Jersey Mike’s is the refreshment sponsor of Join The Pack and will provide mini subs for event participants.
“Jersey Mike’s is a wonderful friend of Food For The Poor,” FFTP President/CEO Ed Raine said. “We’re grateful to the organization as a whole and to Jason Rex specifically for their generous support. This latest effort will make a significant impact on the lives of families in Honduras who are struggling to put food on the table.”
Over half of the population in Honduras lives in poverty, with more than 48 percent living below the poverty line, facing inadequate food production, high unemployment, and vulnerability to natural disasters. The COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of hurricanes Eta and Iota landing in Honduras within two weeks of each other significantly impaired the nation’s economy in 2020, with many families still struggling to recover.
Volunteers will fill plastic bags with cups of white rice and soy, scoops of freeze-dried vegetables, and flavoring containing essential vitamins and nutrients. Once packed, the easy-to-transport meals are prepared with boiling water, with each pack providing six generous servings of nutritious food.
Since 2009, FFTP and FMSC, a Christian nonprofit organization based in Coon Rapids, Minn., have partnered to provide more than 839.8 million meals for families in need, including more than 75.5 million sent directly to Honduras.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available. In addition to Jersey Mike’s Subs, current sponsors include ResourceOne and MG&A Wealth. To register as a volunteer or learn more about sponsorship opportunities, please call 888-404-4248 or visit www.FoodForThePoor.org/jointhepack.
