Hundreds of Turkeys for Two Charities in Time for Thanksgiving
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Nov. 21, 2019) Two South Florida charities will have turkey on the menu for their meals for local residents in need over the Thanksgiving holiday, thanks to the loving generosity of Food For The Poor.
Today, at Food For The Poor headquarters in Coconut Creek, Essie “Big Mama” Reed along with her Team of Life charity, and Pastor Norman “D.C.” Perkins and his Liberty Movement received checks from Food For The Poor President/CEO Robin Mahfood to buy nearly a thousand turkeys between the two of them.
“Times are hard for many, here, in South Florida,” Mahfood said. “People like ‘Big Mama’ and ‘D.C,’ have hearts of gold; they have taken on a tremendous task of feeding struggling families, the elderly and the homeless all year long. But, there’s something extra special about Thanksgiving. We are honored to express our appreciation for all that they do to serve others.”
When it comes to serving the local community, “Big Mama” is a Fort Lauderdale fixture, she has helped families in need for more than 30 years. She said the support she has received from Food For The Poor for Thanksgiving, over the past 10 years, is a big blessing for Team of Life.
“This donation means that more families will have food to enjoy for Thanksgiving, and I am looking forward to helping children, mothers and so many others,” she said. “Food For The Poor is in the heart of the community. They are a praying organization and when you walk through their doors, you can feel God’s spirit. I love that about them.”
Pastor Perkins also is working hard to assure as many people as possible in West Palm Beach have a meal during the holidays. The check he received from Mahfood will buy 500 turkeys.
“This check means so much to us and we can’t thank you enough, because it will allow us to purchase the food we need in real time and get it to the people quickly,” Pastor Perkins said. “We want people to know that we not only believe in feeding people, we want to help people to get a job and to get back on their feet.”
