Beyond The Plate: Ep. 22 | From Indiana to Honduras: A Million Dollar Miracle
Sometimes, the smallest acts of faith and compassion can spark extraordinary change. This is the story of Greensburg, Indiana, and Cucuyagua, Honduras—two communities, separated by distance and circumstance, united by a shared commitment to serve.
On Christmas Day 1990, Tom Ricke made a vow to God during a family crisis: if his wife Susan survived a life-threatening medical emergency, he would do anything asked of him. Years later, Father Carlton Beever visited their church, sharing stories of Honduran children and families struggling to survive, some going days without food.
What followed was nothing short of remarkable. Parishioners of St. Mary’s Church and the broader Greensburg community mobilized like never before. Even Mayor Joshua Marsh joined the mission, traveling to Honduras and building lasting connections. Their efforts went far beyond building homes—they established community centers, feeding programs, schools, and vocational training, creating hope and opportunity for generations.
When communities, local governments, and supporting organizations come together, sustainable change isn’t just possible—it’s inevitable. Join us as we explore how Food For The Poor goes beyond immediate relief to create lasting transformation that empowers generations.
