Beyond The Plate: Ep.24 - Finding Hope in Honduras | Hispanic Heritage Month
What happens when the storytellers step in front of the camera? In this moving episode of Beyond the Plate, we meet Viviana Moreno and Jose Manuel, from the television program Come Home with Jen Mallan (airing on the Christian Television Network). Their mission to document poverty in Honduras became a deeply personal journey of connection, faith, and transformation.
In Honduras, where more than two-thirds of the population lives in poverty and millions survive on less than $2 a day, Viviana and Jose witnessed both heartbreak and hope. For Jose—born in Colombia and adopted after growing up in an orphanage—the experience was profoundly personal. Seeing families living in hardship stirred a powerful realization: “That could have been me.” His story is a heartfelt tribute to his adoptive mother, whose love changed the course of his life.
Through their cameras, Viviana and Jose captured the full spectrum of human experience—from the desperation of families surviving in the San Pedro Sula garbage dump to the joy and renewal found at FFTP’s Angels of Hope homes. There, children are thriving through sustainable initiatives like bakeries that provide nourishment, skills, and a path toward independence. As we honor Hispanic Heritage Month, Food For The Poor celebrates how compassion connects us across cultures. You don’t need a passport to make a difference—just an open heart willing to see and serve others with love.
